We just started getting Nurture Life meals. I ordered them in a moment of desperation with another stressful mealtime, trying to figure out what my picky toddler would eat. I did a search for “healthy frozen meals for kids” (or something like that) and came across Nurture Life.

Is Nurture Life Healthy?

A few days later after I made my first impulse order, I started meticulously looking through the ingredients of every Nurture Life meal. I discovered that several meals contained enriched flour. As someone who has done a lot of research on nutrition, enriched flour is not something I would choose to feed my kids. We prioritize minimally processed, whole foods overall. So if I’m going to invest a lot of money into buying a  prepared meals, I wanted to be confident it was made with high quality ingredients. So I contacted customer service and was surprised when their registered dietician on staff, Liz Wilcox, replied back the following week!

She explained in detail why many Nurture life meals contain enriched flour, and how one of their goals for 2025 is to find a better whole wheat flour option. I love that even though their current ingredients list isn’t “perfect”, they are actively seeking out a better option. She also shared the ingredients that Nurture Life does not use.

Nurture Life "Never Evers" List:

  • Nitrates/Nitrites (Sodium or Potassium Nitrate/Nitrite, Celery Powder)

  • Potassium Bromate

  • High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS)

  • Partially hydrogenated oils (trans fats)

  • Propylparaben

  • Butylated Hydroxyanisole (BHA)

  • Butylated Hydroxytoluene (BHT)

  • Propyl Gallate

  • Theobromine

  • Artificial Flavors

  • Synthetic Colors (F, D & C)

  • Diacetyl

  • Bisphenol-A (BPA)

  • Carrageenan

As a mom that is already stressed about meal planning and making sure my kids maintain a healthy diet, this is all reassuring. In an ideal world, we would be preparing all meals at home with all whole foods ingredients like fresh fruits, veggies, legumes, nuts and seeds. But the reality is, that’s not always possible. Especially the past week when my family was sick and my husband wasn’t able to cook for us as he normally does.

Nurture Life Review Complaints

One complaint I have is that their customer service is slow to reply. I think they just offer customer service M-F. So if you send them an email later in the week, you might not receive a reply right until the following week.  Based on the website branding & ordering experience, I assumed it was a bigger company. But based on my experience with nurture life customer service, I’m thinking maybe they’re a smaller team than I realized.

From a business perspective, I believe they need to invest more time & money into their customer service. I think a good customer service experience is critical for a meal delivery service. Not only is it expensive to order a prepared meal delivery subscription,  it’s time sensitive as well. So if my order deadline is Saturdays 11:59pm to receive my Friday order, then sometimes I might have a question that I would want answered prior to that.

This review is a work in progress, I'll be sharing updates as I have them.

Final Thoughts

I hope this helps you decide whether you want to try Nurture Life. Their cancellation process is pretty straightforward and can be done with a click of a button. They don't hide it or make it difficult to find. I was honestly about to cancel when I saw the enriched flour in the ingredients, but after actually trying the meals, I decided to stick around and get a second shipment!
