Frequently Asked Questions


+ How do I know online tutoring will work for my child?

After tutoring students in-person for six years, I discovered that online tutoring is often MORE effective. Students feel more comfortable working in the comfort of their home, and find sessions highly interactive & fun.

+ How long will my child need tutoring?

The length of time needed depends on what you would like your child to accomplish through tutoring. I recommend at least six months - one year.


+ How often do you want to meet with my child?

I meet with students either once or twice a week. After our consultation, I will give my recommendations on how often to meet.

+ How long does each session last?

Sessions last anywhere from 35 - 45 minutes. I do not assign an exact amount of time because it depends on how the session is going. There will be days your child is not as responsive to tutoring, and we end earlier. Other days, they may be more energetic, and we can work a bit longer.

+ How do I set-up my computer for online tutoring?

Prior to the first session, I provide detailed instructions (with pictures!) on how to set up and join the meeting.

+ How does online tutoring work?

All you need is a high-speed internet connection and computer with a webcam. I use the video calling software called Zoom, in addition to an online whiteboard, known as BitPaper.

BitPaper works best with the Google Chrome browser. Prior to our first session, please make sure you have an updated version of Chrome.

+ How does payment work?

I collect all payment through Square. More details are provided in the new parent welcome letter.


+ Cancellations

If you need to cancel a session for any reason, please let me know as soon as possible. I require 24 hours' notice for cancellation. Sessions cancelled within 24 hours may not be rescheduled. Exceptions may be made in case of emergency.

+ Rescheduling

Since all sessions are prepaid, I do not provide refunds for cancelled sessions. Instead, your paid credit will be applied towards our next scheduled session.

+ Expected Absences

If you know in advance that you will need to miss a session due to a vacation, medical appointment, or other reason, please let me know at least two weeks in advance so I can adjust accordingly. If at any time either the parent or tutor decides to discontinue tutoring for any reason, unused sessions will be refunded.

+ Are you a certified teacher?

Yes! I have my Illinois Professional Educator License with a Learning Behavior Specialist 1 endorsement. I have a master’s degree in special education.

+ What sets your services apart from other tutors?

I do not have a “one size fits all” method of teaching. I want to equip your child with strategies that work effectively for them.

My mission is for your child to be independent and confident, so that a tutor will no longer be necessary.

You will not find the same level of customization (or expertise!) by hiring a large tutoring company, or by hiring a college student.
